Advancing Race Equality at University of Galway

Owen Ward, EDI Programme Manager for Race Equality leads the implementation and monitoring of the Race Equality Framework and Action Plan 2023 – 2027 in an effort of advance race equality across the University of Galway. In addition, he is the Line Manager to the EDI Race Equality Advisors and the Chairperson of the Race Equality Committee, a subcommittee of EDICC, that advise on the extensive race equality programme of work at University of Galway. 

EDI Race Equality Advisors

Anne Marie Stokes, Mary Cairns and Prisca Chipao are the EDI Race Equality Advisors who work collaboratively with colleagues and students to advance race equality across the University of Galway. 

The EDI Race Equality Advisors:

  • Offer one to one appointments to ethnic minority students and staff including Irish Travellers and Roma and signpost to supports.
  • Raise awareness of race equality including staff and student training in the college.
  • Act as the main point of contact for ethnic minority staff and students, including Irish Travellers and Roma, who experience incidents of racism and signpost to the appropriate report and support mechanisms.
  • Support the advancement of race equality at University of Galway.
